Choosing a quality orthodontic provider is crucial for high quality orthodontic care. At Tilghman Orthodontics, we strive to provide our patients with top-notch orthodontic treatment at a reasonable price. We promise to customize treatment to each individual patient to ensure they receive the care that is necessary for their smile, mouth, and jaw. It is worth noting, there are some significant differences in orthodontic care these days, particularly between Invisalign & Smiles Correct  and mail-order aligners and we want to educate you on the differences.

Invisalign Explained by an Orthodontist

Invisalign SmileToday, many patients are familiar with Invisalign orthodontic treatment. It consists of clear plastic aligners that are created to slowly shift a patient’s teeth into the desired position. At Tilghman Orthodontics, we also offer Smiles Correct our own brand of clear aligners, and we believe these are the most important aspects to know about both of these treatment options:

  • At your initial consultation with the orthodontist, you will discuss which orthodontic appliance will work best for your smile goals. At this time, our orthodontist will take digital x-rays, intra-oral photographs, and a 3D scan to get a full understanding of your teeth, mouth, and jaw.
  • Dr. Tilghman and his orthodontic team will utilize the 3D scan to design a treatment plan that consists of subtle, gradual movements built into a series of aligner trays, either with Invisalign or Smiles Correct.
  • After receiving your Invisalign or Smiles Correct aligners from Tilghman Orthodontics your orthodontist, you will have subsequent appointments to observe and monitor your orthodontic progress. If necessary, new Invisalign or Smiles Correct aligners may be ordered to ensure appropriate progress is being made.
  • Although rare, Tilghman Orthodontics staff members are available for emergencies and/or aligner replacements. Tilghman Orthodontics will be with you every step of the way.

Our expert orthodontists have not only been trained and educated to treat orthodontic abnormalities with clear aligner products such as Invisalign and Smiles Correct, they also have the experience to do. At Tilghman Orthodontics, we have successfully treated countless patients with both Invisalign and Smiles Correct.

Mail-Order Aligners Explained by an Orthodontist

Recently, patients have been asking about Mail-order aligners, an orthodontic aligner company who boasts about inexpensive prices and quality care. At Tilghman Orthodontics, we want to share the orthodontist perspective, as providers who have treated orthodontic issues for decades. We believe it’s important to know the following about mail-order aligners:

  • Initially, you can choose to do at-home impressions of your teeth with the mail-order aligners or travel to the nearest SmileShop to do your impressions in person. Because the impressions are typically done at home by non-orthodontically trained individuals, they are frequently done incorrectly. These impressions will be used to make your aligners. Additionally, because x-rays are not used, your teeth are straightened, but your bite may not be correct. In other words, you may be left with an "open bite" or teeth that hit and/or chip
  • ●Next, mail-order aligners will create all of your clear plastic aligners for the length of your treatment. These aligners will be sent to your home all at once.
  • Within the mail-order aligners box, you will be instructed how to wear and care for your aligners.

The mail-order aligners aligner process is quite simple because it does not include a face-to-face appointment with an orthodontist. Unfortunately, with this treatment, there is no professional monitoring your progress nor making adjustments when necessary.
