Advanced Orthodontic Treatment in Salisbury & Berlin, MD

At Tilghman Orthodontics, we strive to provide the highest-quality orthodontic care while maintaining a fun, friendly office environment. Dr. Tilghman, Dr. Schwartz and highly-trained team of orthodontics specialists work with our patients individually to craft highly personalized treatment plans, perfectly suiting each patient's unique needs and lifestyle. We take pride in using only the latest in cutting-edge orthodontic technology at our office, which is why we're excited to incorporate the iTero intraoral scanner into our treatment system.

A Perfect Smile Without Putty

Orthodontics is a highly advanced science that uses complex, specialized tools, techniques, and technologies to make precise, finely-calibrated adjustments to teeth to help create beautiful and healthy smile – and for us, sticky, messy putty has no place in that picture! In addition to being uncomfortable and irritating, the putty used to make traditional impressions is often inaccurate, which can cause problems during treatment. Instead of traditional orthodontic impressions, we're proud to use the iTero digital impression system in our office.

iTero is an advanced medical scanner that performs a detailed optical scan of the teeth and mouth, then feeds the data it collects into specialized computer software. The software analyzes the iTero data, then uses it to construct a fully-realized 3D model of your teeth and bite. The digital model is more accurate than physical impressions, can be updated and adjusted in real time, and even lets us run simulations to see what your teeth will look like after treatment. Altogether, it's an invaluable tool for providing quality, precise orthodontic treatment.

The Process of Digital Impressions

Say goodbye to sitting with a mouthful of messy putty for 10 minutes! With iTero, the impressions process is extremely easy. Dr. Tilghman simply uses the iTero scanner, which is essentially a wand that fits easily into your mouth, to easily make a model of your bite. He'll wave the scanning end of the wand over each of your teeth, during which time it will take hundreds of pictures of your teeth and bite. Once he's scanned all of your tooth surfaces, his computer will compile all of those images into a complete model of your bite. This eliminates uncomfortable putty, provides a more accurate impression, and lets both you and Drs. Tilghman & Schwartz see your finished impression within seconds!

Why We Use iTero Instead of Putty Impressions

On just about every front, iTero beats traditional impressions by a long shot. Here's what makes iTero such a great solution:

  • Accuracy: Putty impressions are often inaccurate, as all it takes is one air bubble to ruin the entire model. With iTero, there are no missing pieces, and Dr. Tilghman or Dr. Schwartz can update it in real time.
  • Comfort: Traditional impressions require you to sit with messy putty and uncomfortable supports in your mouth for 10 minutes at a time – something that sometimes makes patients gag. With iTero, the scanning process is simple, comfortable, and fast.
  • Invisalign Integration: While iTero can be used with any of our treatment options, it's particularly useful for Invisalign. iTero let's us create your treatment plan directly within the software, then send the data to the lab directly so you get your aligners faster than ever.
