At Tilghman Orthodontics, our mission is simple: help our patients achieve beautiful, healthy smiles through orthodontic treatments that fit their lifestyles. We're proud to help patients throughout the Eastern Shore improve their well-being through orthodontic treatment, and we offer a wide range of treatments to suit the diverse needs of our patients. Through braces, Invisalign, and other appliances, we can correct a number of common orthodontic problems, or malocclusions.

Underbite

underbite.pngThis common bite problem occurs when the lower jaw extends out past the upper jaw, causing the upper teeth to close inside the lower.

Crossbite

crossbite.pngThis problem is characterized by the lower back teeth closing outside of the upper teeth. Often, patients with crossbite need to move their lower jaw to the side as they close their mouths.

Upper Front Teeth Protrusion

protrusion.pngThis malocclusion causes the upper front teeth to stick out too far forward beyond the rest of the mouth. If untreated, this can increase the risk of trauma to the upper front teeth.

Overbite

overbite.pngThe reverse of underbite, this occurs when the upper jaw extends too far past the lower jaw. In extreme cases, this may cause the lower jaw to bite into the roof of the mouth.

Crowding

crowding.pngCrowding occurs when there isn't enough space in the dental arch to accommodate all the teeth, causing them to grow in crooked and misaligned.

Spacing

spacing.pngThe opposite of crowding, spacing problems cause gaps between the teeth. Spacing may be a purely cosmetic issue or may affect bite function.

Openbite

openbite.pngOften caused by prolonged thumb sucking or tongue thrusting, an openbite occurs when the upper and lower front teeth don't meet when the mouth is closed, causing a hole in the smile. This can also cause problems with speech and chewing.

Dental Midlines not Matched

The Importance of Early Orthodontic Treatment

Thankfully, we can treat all of these problems at our office – but in some cases, early intervention is necessary to ensure the best results. Through early orthodontic intervention, we can use specialized devices to gently guide the growth of the jaws, achieving adjustments that would require oral surgery later in life. In particular, malocclusions like openbite, crossbite, underbite, overbite, and crowding may benefit from early orthodontic treatment.
